Benefits of Ozone - Reacts with contaminants up to 3,000 times faster than chlorine and can be generated on site. Ozone leaves no taste or odor. Standard contact time for chlorine is 20 minutes - ozone is just 4 minutes. Creates no trihalomethanes (THM’s). Ozone’s only by-product is oxygen.

Disinfection - Bacteria - Ozone kills microorganisms with a process known as "cellular lysis". In the oxidation process, ozone ruptures the cellular membrane of microorganisms and disperses the bacterial cytoplasm into solution, thus making reactivation impossible. This process takes place in about 2 seconds. Chlorine must first diffuse through the bacterial cell wall after which oxidation of the bacterium’s enzymes by hypochlorous ions causes death. This process takes much more time for disinfection and is also dependent on other factors of water quality. Ozone destroys E. Coli faster than chlorine. Legionella pneumophila (the bacteria responsible for Legionnaires disease) is destroyed with relatively low dosages of ozone. This is one of many reasons ozone has become so popular in the treatment of cooling tower water. Streptococcus Fecalis is easily destroyed with low ozone dosages. Virus Inactivation - it has been found that inactivation of viruses in excess on 3-log (99.9%) can be achieved by maintaining a 0.4 residual of ozone for minimum of 4 minutes. Inactivation of Bacillus and Clostridium spores for sterilization is achievable with ozone at relatively high dosages and high contact time. Amoebae Cysts, Free Amoebae, Giardia, and Cryptosporidium - Inactivation is achieved with ozone when dosage and contact times are calculated with special attention paid to the physicochemical composition of the water (other reactants to ozone).

Taste & Odor Control - Ozone is the disinfectant of choice for most water bottling plant operations. Unlike chlorine, ozone leaves no undesirable taste or odor. Ozone oxidizes the organics responsible for 90% of taste and odor related problems. - Examples: tannin and color removal.

Algae Control - Ozone effectively kills plankton (algae). Ozonization disrupts the metabolic processes of many types of algae by oxidizing essential organic components. - Examples: ponds and water features.

Oxidation of Organics - Oxidation of inorganics with ozone will not result in the removal of metals, but it does facilitate their precipitation and subsequent removal through filtration. Iron and manganese are easily and readily oxidized into a particulate for filtration downstream. Sulfides are rapidly oxidized to sulfates, thus eliminating the "rotten egg" taste and odor associated with sulfides. Heavy metals such as arsenic, copper, and lead are easily reduced to below detection limits with ozonization followed by filtration. Trace metal removal of cadmium and zinc through oxidation with ozone and subsequent filtration has been found to be effective in reaching MCL levels established by the USEPA in the SDWA. Nitrate ion is oxidized very quickly to nitrate as are organic nitrites, nitrites nitrous compounds and hydroxylamines.

Installation

Installation is a breeze. The unit is completely self contained and also includes ¾” fiber reinforced hose for connection to your water tank. Simply run a line from your storage tank to the inlet of the PRO400 and then a return line from the outlet back to your tank. Plug in the supplied 110V plug and your system is ready to go in a matter of minutes.
